EPD Conducts 2020 Homeless Survey, Presents Data to the Community

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — The Eureka Police Department conducts their 2020 homeless survey and is presenting the data they have collected to the community.

The comprehensive survey was conducted by the Community Safety and Engagement Team and UPLIFT Eureka. Over the span of 4 weeks, 211 people were surveyed and each survey consisted of 35 questions. These questions included things like demographics, drug or alcohol abuse, mental and physical health, resource usage, life satisfaction, and living situations.

In a statement, Chief Steve Watson says, “The data from this survey, perhaps the most comprehensive ever completed of unsheltered homeless in the City of Eureka, provides crucial information needed to help guide EPD and our partners in our collaborative efforts to support, engage, and outreach to those experiencing homelessness. We understand enforcement will not solve the homeless crisis. Compassionate outreach services are key components in our response”

The full survey can be viewed online on the city of Eureka’s website. https://www.ci.eureka.ca.gov/depts/police/transparency_portal__sb_978/default.asp
