Local non-profit set to rollout new app

EUREKA, Cali. (KIEM)-with the recent pandemic affecting all aspects of people lives…one non-profit has an app for that.

The app is meant to connect mentors and mentees, in a safe way.

According to the executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Coast, the app comes at the most opportune time.

“We’re really excited for the opportunity to provide an app to our “Bigs” and “Littles”, and make the convenience of virtual mentoring happen for our community,” she said. “And it makes it so any mentor that’s interested in becoming a mentor can have the ease of their phone to connect with their mentee or “Little”.”

The app is set to rollout on Monday and will then be tested within the community.

Parks says the non-profits number one priority is to keep the kids safe, among other things.

The app will also offer support to those involved in the program.

“The intricacies are really about the protection of our kids first, providing a safe space first and safe place for our “Bigs” and “Littles” to congregate.

According to Parks, their match support specialist can monitor conversations and to make sure those who are involved with the organization also have some support.

“So the app has ease of activities and ease of suggestions for our learning center,” she said. “It will have a lot of opportunities for our “Bigs” just to have the ease of becoming a mentor at their fingertips.”
