Stand against racism and police brutality protest held in McKinleyville

MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. (KIEM) – A stand against racism and police brutality march and gathering took place in McKinleyville today, it was organized by people of color with support from Humboldt Grassroots.

Starting at the corner of Central Ave. and Picket Rd., the group of over 200 marched to Pierson Park.

An informational gathering then took place where a microphone was passed to people of color and those who have lost loved ones to police brutality.

Local residents spoke of the systemic oppression within McKinleyville.

The superintendent of the McKinleyville Union School District invited local educators up while she announced how the school district will be moving forward with changes.
