Humboldt Bay Generating Station can now power residents during PSPS

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) — PG&E announces the Humboldt Bay Generating Station can now provide power directly to customers during emergencies, including public safety power shutoffs.

It’s been 6 months in the making and is all thanks to what is known as islanding, which will allow portions of Humboldt County to be separated from the larger grid and be powered by the HBGS.

As many as 67,000 customers will be able to remain energized in 20 cities and towns such as Eureka, Arcata, McKinleyville, and Fortuna.

PG&E adds that in 2020 they are doing all they can to make any PSPS event smaller in size, shorter in duration, and smarter for customers.
