Search underway for missing 19-year-old kayaker

TRINIDAD, Calif. (KIEM) – A search is underway for a kayaker that went out to sea Friday morning, but has yet to return.

According to authorities, a 19-year-old male left the Trinidad area around 6 a.m.

Shortly after 4 p.m. a kayak and life jacket, likely belonging to the man, washed up on the beach in the same area the man was last seen.

The missing person is described as a 5-foot-7-inch white male, weighing roughly 130 pounds.

The Coast Guard and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, along with other area agencies, were searching the shoreline through Friday evening. It has not been confirmed if the search continued after dark.
