Humboldt Bay Fire Reminds Residents to Check Their Smoke Alarms

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)- Humboldt Bay Fire wants to remind community members to check your smoke detectors on a regular basis.

Humboldt Bay Fire says over thirty-eight percent of deaths from fires are a result of people not checking their smoke detectors.

Smoke detectors should be located in every room that a person sleeps in and community members should tests their smoke alarms once a month to see if they are working properly.

HBF has partnered with the American Red Cross to have a program that provides you with a smoke detector and go through an American Red Cross sheet that will help residents with an  at home safety plan to prevent fires from happening inside their homes.
