Dr. Frankovich talks challenges upcoming flu season could pose amid Covid-19

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The upcoming flu season isn’t too far away, and Public Health is predicting it will be even more challenging this year amid Covid-19.

With the possibility of another surge of Covid-19 cases in the future, health officials are expecting to be facing both flu season and Covid simultaneously in the fall and winter months.

According to County Health Officer Dr. Frankovich, the flu can normally take up a lot of capacity here locally. This would cause crowding hospitals and emergency rooms which takes away needed space for Covid patents.

DHHS and the Public Health Department continue to monitor the current situation, but will be asking the community to do their part and get a flu vaccine this year. For more information on flu vaccines or the upcoming flu season, you can contact DHHS or visit their website.
