Motorcycle and van collision leaves one person dead

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) – One man is dead after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a van, in Eureka.

The accident occurred at the intersection of West Hawthorne and Union Street at around 8 p.m. Thursday night.

Paramedics arrived to find the man lying in the road and unresponsive. They immediately attempted life-saving procedures, including CPR. The man was then taken to the hospital, but he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

According to witnesses in the area, the motorcycle crashed into the van as both vehicles were in the intersection. A witness also said the motorcycle was going at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision.

The driver of that van was taken to the hospital for tests, but police would not comment any further on his status. This is an ongoing investigation.
