Eureka Police distributes free crime scene investigation kits to kids

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) — The Eureka Police Department can’t physically host a crime scene investigation camp this year, but they’re offering take home crime scene kits for kids.

Evidence technician Carly Balk has created a series of CSI kits that focus on different topics when it comes to crime scene investigation. All of the kits are free and geared for kids 10 to 15 years old.

The first kit, do it yourself DNA extraction, was handed out Monday. They saw such a large response, that all of the kits were gone by 12:30 that afternoon.

EPD says they’ll be making more kits for the next round. For updates on the next pick up time, you can follow EPD’s Facebook page.
