Public health officials work to get children back in class for fall

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) – Public health officials say keeping COVID-19 out of the classroom setting is nearly impossible.

Local schools are working with the Humboldt County Health Office to determine what health practices would most feasibly allow for children to return to class in the fall.

Public Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich says, across the community, most would generally agree that the optimal setting for children is to be in school.

However, it is nearly impossible to socially distance a full school of children 100% of the time.

The county is using the state’s school guidance as an outline in determining what will work for individual school settings when it comes to adopting daily health practices.

Dr. Frankovich says we can’t continue to strive for perfection, rather we should continue to implement these safety measures that limit the spread of COVID-19.
