Greater Mill Creek Ecosystem Restoration Project set to start, Live panel discussion set for Thursday

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)-Redwood National and State Parks has completed its conservation planning process for the Greater Mill Creek Ecosystem Restoration Project, and now they want to share it with the world.

A live panel discussion about the project with California State Parks, National Park Service and “Save the Redwood Recreation League” will be broadcasted online.

The event will begin Thursday at 3 p.m. on the California State Park’s Facebook page.

The restoration project will implement restoration across about 34,000 acres within the Greater Mill Creek Watershed.

This will include both state and national park lands, some work on this project is expected this summer.

Interpretive program manager Marnin Robbins with North Coast Redwoods District says this project is important.

“Our efforts will entail a few things, some forest thinning in order for light to come in the forest and other trees to take root and grow and removal of damaged logging roads that are failing and need to be completely removed in order for the landscapes to heal.”

Robbins stream restoration is also part of the project to allow passage in places for fish to rear their young in the streams.

Copies for the Finding of significant impact can be downloaded and a hard copy can be requested. That information can be found by clicking here and to watch the live Facebook panel discussion on June 25 at 3 p.m. click here.
