2 to 6 day turnaround time for Covid-19 tests, Public Health working to speed up process

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — After reports of the turnaround time for Covid-19 tests at the Redwood Acres site being a full week, County Health Officer Dr. Frankovich is sharing her concerns, as well as the steps public health is taking to reduce that lag time.

According to Dr. Frankovich, when there are individuals being tested that they are concerned about, such as those who are symptomatic or had contact to a known case, Public Health tries to process the test in their own lab to try and speed up the results. For more general surveillance testing, or for those with a lower probability of being positive, Public Health relies on the OptumServe tool.

Right now, it could take anywhere from 2 to 6 days to receive your results. While it’s not ideal, Public Health is on weekly calls with the test center to address this issue.
