EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) – Once sporting goods stores were allowed to reopen, Pacific Outfitters saw customers try to find new ways to be active during the shelter-in-place order.

Pacific Outfitters Co-Owner Aaron Ostrom said cycling and fishing were popular during shelter in place and continue to see more interest. Now that more outdoor activities are permitted, Pacific Outfitters welcomed more customers and more sales. This surge in outdoor activity includes kayaking, hiking, and backpacking.

As a result of this increase in sales, outdoor recreation areas are also seeing more activity. Since opening up, Pacific Outfitters began booking tours, guided hikes, kayak trips, and surfing adventures for future dates.

Ostrom hopes that this trend will continue and will not become an anomaly. As customers of all experience levels take to the outdoors, he has one message urging residents to go out and take advantage of what the county has to offer.
