Crescent City volunteer group helps clean sidewalks and curbs

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. (KIEM) – With several private volunteer group startups under his belt, Del Norte County District 1 Supervisor Roger Gitlin is working on one more before he retires.

The formation of the Pride in Community volunteer group was created in effort to remove weeds and clean the sidewalks, curbs and gutters along the streets in Crescent City.

Services that take care of these types of jobs have been reduced amid the COVID-19 pandemic due to the city losing revenue from transient occupancy tax.

The formation of PIC allows community members to give back to their community and maintain its pristine condition.

Gitlin says tourists should be able to visit the area and admire the beauty that the city has to offer.

The PIC program begins Wednesday, July 1 and will operate every Wednesday through the end of the summer.

Those that wish to volunteer are asked to meet at the Battery Point Lighthouse parking lot at 10 a.m. with appropriate attire and face gear.

Gitlin wants to remind community members that private property owners are still responsible for maintaining their personal property.
