Hoopa Fire blocks off SR 96

HOOPA VALLEY, Calif. (KIEM) – A vegetation fire in Northern Humboldt led to the closure of a major roadway.

Firefighters north of Hoopa are battling a fire that broke out along State Route 96 late Monday morning. In roughly three hours, the fire grew to roughly 60 acres in size.

As a result, a two-mile stretch of SR 96 was closed near Bull Creek, which is about two-miles south of Weitchpec.

According to a Caltrans update, the road was opened to one-way controlled traffic around 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
