Dr. Frankovich talks Governor Newsom’s most recent statewide order

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) —  Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Frankovich is giving residents a better understanding of the governor’s recent order shifting many businesses back to outdoor-only operations.

Frankovich understands is may have come as a surprise, especially considering local numbers are doing fairly well. People need to keep in mind the rapid rise of cases and increases in hospitalizations and icu admissions across the entire state.

There’s also the positivity rate of cases. Eight percent is the threshold to be concerned about and the state is slowly reaching that number. Some activities are riskier, like those in indoor settings, so the order is trying to mitigate the risks by shifting operations outdoors.

Frankovich believes this is a step we can take now so we hopefully don’t have to take more drastic steps down the road.

“Quite honestly, I think this is an intermediate measure that is meant to help prevent us from getting to a place where we have to do a completely, restricted back to shelter in place mode,” Frankovich says.
