Eureka Police searching for carjacking suspect

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) — The Eureka Police Department is searching for the suspect responsible for an armed carjacking.

Wednesday night shortly after 8:30, a woman reported to EPD that she and a friend had been carjacked at gunpoint while sitting in her parked vehicle on the 2100 block of Spring Street. The victim identified the suspect as 40-year-old Mario Marcel Garcia of Eureka.

The victim says Garcia forced his way into the driver seat at gunpoint and then reportedly assaulted both her and her friend. She says Garcia then drove them both several blocks against their will while making multiple threats to kill them. The female was able to escape the vehicle and get police’s attention.

Officers searched the area and located the stolen vehicle and friend in an alley near the 3300 block of E Street. She was unharmed and said Garcia fled on foot.

Garcia is wanted for the carjacking, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, and other charges.

EPD says Garcia should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call EPD.
