Pacific Seafood to pay $74,500 penalty for Clean Water Act violations

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) — Pacific Seafood Eureka and the Environmental Protection Agency reach an agreement over violations of the Federal Clean Water Act.

The settlement requires the company to pay a $74,500 penalty after an EPA inspection in 2018 found the company was discharging wastewater into the City of Eureka’s sewer system and Humboldt Bay’s Eureka Slough in violation of both local and federal standards.

Other violations associated with the operation and maintenance of the facility’s pre-treatment system were also found. The inspection followed several violations notices issued to the facility by the City of Eureka. The company has since addressed all compliance issues.
