Dr. Frankovich reminds residents to refrain from traveling and gathering

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – With a large increase in COVID-19 cases, Public Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich gives us a closer look at the potential risk of traveling to other California counties

She says that travel and gatherings are the top causes of increased cases in Humboldt County.

For those traveling to Bay Area counties such as San Francisco, Alameda and Santa Clara, they are reporting COVID-19 rates that are about four to nine times Humboldt County’s positive COVID-19 rate.

Sacramento County is reporting 6 times Humboldt County’s rate.

Southern California counties such as Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside are reporting about nine to fourteen times Humboldt County’s positive COVID-19 rate.

Finally, Central Valley counties such as Kern and Merced are reporting 11 to 20 times Humboldt County’s rate.

“I realize that it feels like ‘I am just going to visit my mom and dad, or my sister down in Kern County’” Frankovich said. “The problem is that the likelihood of you encountering someone who is ill in that visit, is much higher than it is locally.”
