Red Salmon Complex fire at 670 acres, 0% containment

TRINITY COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — A team of firefighters are battling the Red Salmon Complex fire that is burning along the Humboldt-Trinity County line. It includes both the Salmon Fire and the Red Fire, both of which were lightning caused.

At last check, the red salmon complex is 670 acres in size and 0-percent contained. Breaking that down further, the salmon fire is at 475 acres and the Red Fire is at 195 acres. Both fires are burning in rugged, remote terrain making access for firefighters difficult.

California Interagency Incident Management Team 14 assumed command of the fire Wednesday night. A variety of helicopters will be assisting ground crews in battling the blaze.

The Salmon Fire is burning at the top of the Eight Mile Creek drainage near Salmon Mountain in the Trinity Alps wilderness portion of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The Red Fire is located about a mile west of the Salmon Summit trail head and roughly a mile east of Black Mountain on the Six Rivers National Forest.
