Dr. Frankovich explains what we know about recent guidance for youth sports

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — Governor Newsom and the state of California recently released guidance on youth sports and county health officer Dr. Frankovich is giving the community a better idea of what this means for Humboldt.

The Joint Information Center is currently reviewing the document, which will soon be available for community members to read in full.

Here’s what we know so far. Only sports that allow for 6 feet of distancing at all times are allowed. Track, golf, and singles tennis are just some examples.

Strength and conditioning sessions are okay, but they must be done outdoors and allow for full social distancing. These sessions must also be done in cohorts to keep a consistent group of kids together over time. Right now, sporting competitions are a no-go.

Dr. Frankovich adds that high exertion activities should be done un-masked and outdoors, and lower exertion activities can be done indoors wearing a mask.
