Handful of candidates qualify for Eureka City Council race, others waiting for verification

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) — The race for Eureka City Council is heating up as a handful of candidates qualify for the upcoming election and more waiting for verification.

There are 2 seats up for grabs, one in ward 2 and the other in ward 4. Austin Allison and Heidi Messner currently serve in those two positions.

Lucinda Jackson, Tamar Shirley, and Dot Jager-Wentworth have qualified for the election for ward 2. Matthew Owen and Liza Welsh have qualified for ward 4.

There are also several candidates that have submitted nomination forms, but are waiting for signatures to be verified by the county office of elections. Kati Moulton for ward 2, and Scott Bauer, Eddie Morgan, and William Tuttle for ward 4.

The nomination period for the vacant seats has officially closed.
