Dr. Frankovich emphasizes safety precautions as children return to school

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – As several local schools begin the school year with in-person instruction, Public Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich addresses the importance of maintaining safe rituals and minimizing the number of places children visit.

“In the best of all worlds, its school and home,” Frankovich said.

Dr. Frankovich says it is really important for parents to emphasize to their kids, the use of hand sanitizer and facial coverings as well as hand washing and social distancing.

Parents should also keep a close eye on signs of symptoms and infection.

Dr. Frankovich adds, it is important for families to keep activities within their family or in particular, their household, to minimize the number of places children are exposed to.

“If they are in a cohort at school of children, if they are only in their home after school,” Frankovich said, “Then it really can help to decrease the chance for infection, for everyone.”
