Hazardous Materials Spill Into Redwood Creek

GARBERVILLE, Ca. (KIEM) -Humboldt County Environmental Health responds to a hazardous materials spill in the Garberville area after a tractor-trailer collision.

63-year-old Dan Watson parked a Ford F250 that was towing a tow-master trailer on Alapolk Lane at Briceland Road.

The vehicles were parked uphill and began to slide downhill as Watson was unloading a tractor from the trailer.

The Ford and the trailer slid down Briceland Road and over the embankment, where they collided with a tree.

The tractor then detached from the trailer and proceeded to roll down the embankment into the creek bed.

Two to three gallons of hydraulic fluid leaked from the tractor.

Luckily, local residents acted quickly and were able to absorb the fluid by putting straw into the creek and limiting the spread.

The collision is currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
