Man arrested following domestic disturbance with shots fired

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)- A man in Eureka is arrested after a gun goes off during a verbal altercation that turned physical.

On August 15th around 11 p.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was called out to a residence on the 2300 block of Yale Court in Eureka for a report of a domestic disturbance with shots fired.

Deputies arrive on scene, but were unable to locate the people involved. After talking to neighbors, HCSO learned a male suspect and two female victims had left the residence separately.

The female victims were found at another residence, one of them had visible injuries. The victims told deputies that one of the women arrive at the home on Yale Court to find 35 year old Ryan Allan Hayse inside of a detached shop in the backyard.

She then confronted Hayse and the two become involved in a verbal argument, which reportedly escalated with Hayse physically assaulting the victim, brandishing a firearm, and threatening to kill her.

The second woman heard the altercation and tried to intervene then Hayse reportedly struck her with the firearm. During this assault, the firearm reportedly discharged with one round striking the residence.

Deputies were able to make contact with Hayse over the phone and police say Hayse continued to evade deputy contact. Then on August 16th around 3:30 p.m., Hayse turned himself in.

He is facing charges for assault with a firearm, criminal threats, and grand theft of a firearm.
