Fortuna Police Department helps make elementary school colorful again

FORTUNA, Calif. (KIEM)-Members of the Fortuna Police Department are hard at work this week helping beautify a local elementary school.

Formally known South Fortuna Elementary school now Linell K. Walker Elementary School  will look a little more colorful than before.

Members of the police department have partnered up with students from Fortuna High School to help repaint a map of the United States at the elementary school. After almost fourteen hours of police stopping by on their free time to put their artistic skills to the test, the project is almost complete.

The map will look much different than before. A laminated game will now be on the map for kids to enjoy for when they make their return to school, and stars will be placed on every state where capitals are located.

With students currently not in class for in person instruction at the elementary school, local law enforcement wanted to make sure the kids received a special surprise for when they make their grand return.
