HACHR responds to recent allegations, Eureka Police Department’s investigation

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) — Following an investigation by the Eureka Police Department, the Humboldt Area Center for Harm Reduction is responding to allegations and taking immediate action.

HACHR says that due to the pandemic, they have been running on a skeleton crew, which has made providing services challenging.

They also acknowledged how in the past they have had to limit or eliminate services to participants who have not complied with rules regarding drug use or dealing on or near the property.

They also laid out a number of immediate actions they are taking.

These include securing funding to hire a staff member to monitor onsite activities and ensure participants are accountable to HACHR agreements, updating policies regarding the release of peers or employees who fail to adhere to HACHR policies and those who break service agreements will lose access to services, and they hope to increase their social media presence, as well as updating their website to share available services with the community more broadly.
