Arcata structure still standing after small fire breaks out

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM) – The Masonic Lodge in Arcata is still standing after an accidental fire that was upgraded to a commercial structure fire occurred Tuesday evening.

Arcata Fire was dispatched to the 200 block of Bayside Road for a fire alarm activation.

Upon the first engines arrival, smoke was seen pushing out of the vents of the building resulting in the dispatch of an additional Arcata Fire engine, as well as an engine from Blue Lake Fire and Humboldt Bay Fire.

Within five minutes, the fire was located in the water heater closet of the building. There were no flames and it was quickly extinguished.

The building contained a moderate amount of smoke but did not exhibit any pressure or volume.

Although known to have something to do with the water heater, the exact cause of the incident is still under investigation.
