Remains found last week identified as missing Hoopa man, primary suspect named

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has identified human remains recovered last Thursday as that of missing person Julius Barthel Tripp.

42-year-old Tripp of Hoopa was reported missing to HCSO on July 26th. A vehicle associated with Tripp was reportedly located on Highway 96 by CHP and Hoopa Valley Tribal Police on July 24th. Law enforcement searching the surrounding area with no results.

Sheriff’s deputies have determined Tripp’s disappearance to be suspicious. A cause of death for Tripp is pending forensic examination of his remains. However, deputies determined it to be a homicide, and have identified 18-year-old Bronson Moon Lewis Jr. as a primary suspect.

A warrant has been issued for Lewis Jr’s arrest on murder charges. Anyone with information regarding Lewis Jr’s whereabouts should contact HCSO.
