Emergency Operations Center accepting reopening plans for youth sports

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – The Emergency Operations Center announced that submissions of reopening plans for youth sports will now be accepted.

The plans will only be approved if proper COVID-19 precautions are in place. Physical distancing must be maintained at all times. Sports must take place in a cohort of no more than 14 children and two adult coaches. Equipment sharing should be limited and facial coverings should be worn for indoor activities. Non-school leagues are required to submit a reopening plan, but school-based sports just have to follow state guidance.

Dr. Josh Ennis, Humboldt County Deputy Health Officer, explained that this guidance only applies to youth sports. At this time, no adult amateur sports are allowed. Dr. Ennis said in the future, guidance for adult sports will most likely be similar to the guidance provided for youth sports.
