County working to implement State’s new business reopening framework

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The Humboldt County Emergency Operations Center is working to incorporate the state’s new 4 tier business reopening frame work into the local reopening plan process.

Under the new “Blueprint for a Safer Economy,” each county is assigned to 1 of 4 tiers. This is based on the 7 day Covid-19 case rate and 7 day test positivity rate. Humboldt County is currently in moderate tier 3 with a 1.4% positivity rate and 3.6 cases per 100,000 residents.

Most sectors that were closed by Governor Newsom in July can reopen modified indoor services with safety measures in place with some sectors required to implement additional restrictions, such as limits on total capacity.

Dr. Frankovich urges a cautious approach to reopening because businesses may be required to transition back to outdoor services or fully close some operations if Humboldt County moves to a higher tier.
