ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM)- Starting this month Arcata Recreation Division is offering an opportunity for first time parents to bond with other families and children.
The New Parents Autumn Outdoor Group is a free physically distant outdoor group for parents to enjoy the outdoors and get a sense of normalcy.
The funding that helped make the group possible is thanks to the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services First 5 ACES’S Collaborative Partnership.
Families will be separated into two groups. One group will meet at the Ma-le’l Dunes from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the first and third Tuesday or the first and third Sunday of the month, weather permitting. Parents can expect to enjoy a nice hike with their babies.
The forest friends new parent group will meet at the Redwood Park the second and fourth Tuesday or the second and fourth Sunday of each month. Parents will partake in a guided forest therapy walk in the Arcata Community Forest.
A skilled facilitator will help engage the parents and newborn babies at each location. Safety precautions will be in place such as facial coverings and social distancing.
