Mandatory evacuation orders issued for Covelo area

COVELO, Calif. (KIEM) — Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for the Covelo area due to the August Complex and Hopkins Fire.

Per the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, the following areas are being told to leave now: the area of Island Mountain, south of the county line, north of Bell Springs Road, and north of Eel River.

The National Forest area from Anthony Peak down to Hull Mountain, west of the county line, and east of the Eel River near the Eel River ranger station.

Residents are told to leave now and use the safest evacuation routes possible. Shelters are set up at Covelo High School and Covelo Rodeo Grounds.
