Trinity County, Calif. (KIEM)-The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident off State Route 299.
The crash happened at about 4:30 Saturday morning on SR-299 West of Corral Bottom Road, 59-year-old David Knight, of Weaverville, crossed over the double yellow line on a right bearing curve in the roadway at an unknown rate of speed, according to CHP.
For reasons yet to be determined – Knight’s Ford F-650 then left the North roadway edge of 299 and collided with a steep rock embankment – the Ford came to rest on its wheels.
Knight sustained fatal injuries as a result of that crash, according to CHP.
State Route 299 remained closed for about three hours with one way traffic controls in place- it has since reopened.
This collision remains under investigation at this time.
