Burning log slash pile leaves lingering smoke in Arcata

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM) — If you’ve seen any smoke near West End Road Tuesday in Arcata. It’s coming from a burning pile of log strippings, according to the Arcata Fire District.

Emergency crews were called out to the 4300 block of West End Road Monday night just after 11 for the report smoke coming from a 100 by 50 foot slash pile with no threat to any nearby structures.

Firefighters worked through the night to put out the flames using more than 20,000 gallons of water, but the decision was made to let the fire burn itself out.

As of 8 Tuesday morning, it continues to burn resulting in lingering smoke and occasional flames. The slash pile is being monitored, but heavy smoke may stick around as it burns out.
