Firefighters from across the country assist crews battling the August Complex Fire West Zone

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — Resources from across the country are assisting in the battle against the August Complex Fire West Zone that has grown to more than 55,000 acres.

Firefighters from Montana, Utah, Texas, and New Jersey are here to assist Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service. The west zone is 55,010 acres and is 0% contained. The complex as a whole is over 755,000 acres.

Fire activity decreased overnight due to more humidity, light winds, and cooler temperatures. The overall acreage of the August Complex has decreased due to more accurate mapping and rezoning of the incident. At this point in time, the fire has not jumped the Eel River or entered Humboldt County.

Evacuation orders and warnings remain in effect with no set date or time for the lifting of those evacuations, per the Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services.
