HUMBODLT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)-The Eureka Police Department’s Community Safety Engagement Team (C-SET) and Uplift Eureka partnered-up to clean up an area of Eureka known for excessive litter – among other issues.

Clean-up efforts were focused on the Greenbelt area near Bayshore Way.

The clean-up was in response to numerous complaints of trash, theft, and vandalism in the area.

The groups removed trash from two abandoned camps which totaled about 2,300.

C-SET and uplift made numerous attempts to provide resources and outreach to those occupying the area – prior to the clean-up – but were mostly met with resistance.

C-SET and uplift want to reiterate – this type of camping is not in line with the CDC guidelines for sheltering in place.

They also add – partnerships and clean-ups like these, are possible thanks to Measure Z.
