Slater and Devil Fires have burned more than 155,000 acres so far

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The Slater and Devil Fires continue to grow as they burn across Del Norte and Siskiyou Counties. Together, the two fires have now reached more than 155,000 acres.

The Slater Fire is roughly 148,600 acres, but containment is now at 22%. The Devil Fire has jumped to 7,458 acres with 18% containment.

“The fire is coming down the Knopki Road and that is coming down quite nicely. As people drive along the highway, they may actually see some fire closer to the highway itself as it slowly moves off that slope and to the highway. That is all being contained within our control lines,” according to Operations Section Chief Mike Granger.

More than 1,200 personnel are battling the two fires.
