2 deaths, 3 injuries connected to the Slater and Devil Fires

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) –The Slater and Devil Fires have burned more than 158,000 acres across Del Norte and Siskiyou Counties.

According to the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, 2 people have died and 3 others have been injured as a result of the fire. 438 structures have been lost, 11 damaged, and about 2,300 still threatened.

The Slater fire is at about 150,200 acres with 24% containment. The Devil Fire is about 7,700 acres and is 18% contained.

“The fire is coming down to the road here on 199 and to the east of the highway. We will continue to see that. They’ll continue to see actually maybe some flames, individual trees torching, but we have crews in the area and are taking care of that,” Operations Section Chief Mike Granger says.

About 1,100 personnel are battling the 2 fires.
