National Guard called in to help fight the August Complex Fire West Zone

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The August Complex Fire West Zone has grown to more than 100,000 acres as it continues to burn just east of Humboldt County.

The West Zone is now at about 103,000 acres and is now 45% contained. 125 National Guard personnel have been called in to assist Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service. Fire officials warn residents that smoke will be highly visible in the area.

The complex as a whole has burned close to 860,000 acres.
