Travel, gatherings remain largest threats of Covid-19 transmission

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, the two biggest threats of transmission are still travel and gatherings.

Both situations are causing infections across the state, but also here locally. Health officials are once again stressing the importance of wearing facial coverings and limiting groups of people gathering together.

More than 30 positive cases have been tied to a large gathering of about 50 people that happened last month.

“It just speaks to the issue that you can’t predict in advance which gatherings are going to turn out to be that sort of super-spreader kind of event, so the safest thing is to not hold them at all,” Dr. Frankovich says.

Dr. Frankovich understands that some people are still going to get together with others. She strongly advises that it be a group of no more than 6 people, be outdoors and socially distanced, and no sharing food.
