ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM)-Arcata Fire District, Samoa Volunteer Fire Dept. and Humboldt Bay Fire all responded to a structure fire on the 1600-block of Victor Boulevard in Arcata, just before three o’clock Saturday afternoon.

Arcata’s Fire Chief Justin McDonald says, there were no injuries reported.

“Humboldt Bay was first engine on scene, [crew] reported a fully involved garage, and they took immediate action with fire attack,” said McDonald. “Crews right now are still in the process extinguishing hotspots and doing overhaul.”

The homeowner – visibility upset – told Redwood News, he thought it was an electrical fire that started in the garage.

He says, he could smell smoke – then saw flame, he then tried to use a hose to put the fire out – but ultimately called 9-1-1.

Fire crews from multiple agencies could be seen working together to extinguish hotspots – the fire remains under investigation.

Crews remained on scene until all hotspots were out.

McDonald says, those who find themselves in the same predicament shouldn’t try to put out the fire themselves – he says get-out and call 9-1-1.
