August Complex Fire grow to more than 938,000 acres, evacuations remain in effect

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The August Complex Fire has grown to more than 938,000 acres and is 43% contained.

In Humboldt County, an evacuation warning remains in effect for areas east of Alderpoint Road to the Trinity County border and south of Showers Pass Road to Mountain Creek.

Evacuation orders remain in effect for Trinity County, including Ruth and Ruth Lake, Forest Glen, Post Mountain and Trinity Pines, Three Forks, The Hettenshaw Valley, and the Mad River and Zenia areas.

“You are going to have power lines that come down as the fire passes, you’re going to possibly have large live charged wires across the road. You may have them fall across the car in your driveway. You may have 100 foot of visibility from smoke with embers. You can’t breathe, the snot rolling down your face, panic starts to set in. You don’t necessarily make the best of decisions, being there to begin with is not the best of decisions. You then place yourself, your family, and the firefighters in danger,” Deputy Incident Commander Chuck Russell says.

Highway 36 remains closed from the Humboldt County line to the junction with Bowman Road.
