August Complex Fire grows to more than 949,000 acres, 47% containment

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The August Complex Fire has grown to more than 949,000 acres and is 47% contained.

A new evacuation warning was issued late Tuesday for Bear Wallow and Friend Mountain, including Rowdy Bear. All other evacuations for Humboldt and Trinity Counties remain in effect.

The fire is progressing north of Highway 36 on both sides of the South Fork Trinity River. Crews say there are no plans to burn near Post Mountain until absolutely needed.

“Fire continues back down towards the 36. We want it to come down to the 36 nice and slowly, and then if we need to, we can fire along the 36 and close this up,” according to Operations Section Chief Karen Scholl.

Right now, about 1,700 personnel are fighting the fire.
