Red Salmon Complex continues to burn over 122,000 acres

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The Red Salmon Complex Fire continues to grow across 3 national forests. The fire has burnt more than 122,000 acres and is 31% contained. Evacuation warnings remain in effect for the Forks of Salmon and the community of Denny.

Warmer temperatures along with gusty winds will result in increased smoke, which may persist for several days. Crews are working to control a fire that started over containment lines near the Colgrove Branch of Mill Creek.

“They’re working to put line in there both indirect and direct around that slop over. Estimated timeframe is about another days of work to get the line in and probably another days work to get the firing there. We’re estimating that slop over about 100 acres there,” Planning Operations Chief Richard Parrish says.

More than 540 personnel are fighting the fire.
