Firefighters continue their fight against the Slater and Devil Fires

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Cali. (KIEM) — Firefighters continue their fight against the slater and devil fires burning up in Del Norte and Siskiyou counties.

The Slater Fire is 154,400 acres in size with 48% containment. The Devil Fire is about 8,500 acres and is 20% contained. Crews are working to connect more than 240 miles of fire line along the perimeter of the Slater Fire.

“If this portion of the fire starts pushing our lines, then we will burn this off. If it doesn’t, then we may just let it consume itself and come together. That is a natural process and creates that mosaic,” Operations Section Chief Mike Granger says.

Officials are expecting the majority of fire activity today to be on the west side of the fire…just below the California-Oregon border.
