National Guard Helps Fight the August Complex Fire

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM)- A grim milestone is reached as the August Complex Fire grows to more than one million acres and is 54%  contained.

138 National Guard personnel are assisting Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service as they battle the fire.

Crews have extinguished several smaller fires that spotted over containment lines near the Highway 36 and South Fork Ridge area.

Highway 36 remains closed from the Trinity County line East to State Route 3, due to active fire and heavy fire traffic.

Personnel have been re-allocated to areas near Ruth Lake as the fire has been backing down towards fire lines below South Fork Mountain.

The fire has crossed existing lines near Zenia, but progress towards containment is being made.
