Sequoia Park Zoo ensures animal health during wildfire season

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)- With air quality levels still reading unhealthy in Humboldt County, workers at the Sequoia Park Zoo are making sure animals are staying safe from harmful smoke conditions.

With fires still surrounding the county zoo staff are closely monitoring each animal daily.

If air quality reaches an unhealthy level certain steps are taken and the animals are moved indoors.

Bird species for example have the highest sensitivity to air quality at the zoo. Theses animals can be brought inside to help maintain their health from smoke conditions.

If you’re planning a trip to the zoo, just know that Coronavirus protocols are in place.
