EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)-At About 9:30 Saturday evening, Humboldt Bay Fire Responded to a debris fire set intentionally in the parking lot of the Booth Brewing Company located at the 100-block of West 3rd Street in Eureka.

An employee at the brewing company decided he wanted to get rid of some wood pallets.

Battalion Chief Nick Launius with Humboldt Bay Fire says, despite the recent rain fall, burning of any kind is banned.

“So he decided to burn them, he really didn’t know what to do,” Launius said. “As a reminder, we let him know the burn suspension is still in effect and to check with air quality, (and to check) when the burn suspension is lifted.

“Just because it’s raining here, doesn’t mean, number one the bigger fuels are going to be saturated enough not to sustain burning, and number two, that the fire resources are going to be here and available.”

The fire was extinguished quickly and no one was injured.
