Devil & Slater fires 75% contained, Hazard tree removal in progress

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)-Crews continue to battle the Devil and Slater fires burning in Del Norte and Siskiyou counties.

The Slater Fire jumped to more than 156,000 acres and is now 75% contained.

Hazard tree removal continues along the Grayback Road – also known as Happy Camp Highway- between Takilma and Happy Camp Sunday.

This operation will restore safer more reliable access for firefighters, residents, and those working to bring power back to happy camp, according to the U.S. Forest Service.  

The devil fire is 8, 849 acres and is now 55% contained, mop up is complete on the northern perimeter of the fire along the Butte Fork of the Applegate River, 1040 Road, and Pacific Crest Trail, placing it in a monitor and patrol status.
